Building mpg123 (Linux)

In the amusing software messages category, I offer this entry, seen while running the configure script for mpg123 (a command-line MP3 player):

…
checking for artsc... ./configure: line 21938: artsc-config: command not found no
checking if you are too dumbing dumb for the dummy... no
configure: creating ./config.status
…

I, for one, welcome our new too dumbing dumb for the dummy overlords am quite relieved to know I'm not too dumbing dumb for the dummy.

Who's The Fascist Here? (Religion)

Suhweet! A student in a public speaking class in a Los Angeles community college got smacked down when his speech opposed same-sex marriage and quoted two Bible verses supporting his position. Quoth the article, “professor John Matteson cut him off, called him a 'fascist bastard' and would not allow him to finish.”

Evidently, two students were offended by the speech. Tough. That you don't like the opinions expressed doesn't make it hate speech, whatever that is anyway. Apparently, though, calling someone a “fascist bastard” for expressing their opinion doesn't qualify as hate speech so long as their opinion isn't politically correct.

So, tell me, who's the fascist here?

Bobblehead Jesus (It's Funny, Laugh)

My entry into the humorously-borderline-sacrilegious, Bobblehead Jesus, or BJ as we've taken to calling him around here. Frankly, I really want Bobblehead Mohammed so I can offend Christians and Muslims. Anyway, I ordered BJ last week, so I hope he arrives soon. I want to start taking him around to all the sites so I can post pictures at ImageWerks.

Before anyone starts hurling anti-Christian epithets at me, I have a strong, well-grounded, tridentine, orthodox Christian faith. I also have a healthy sense of humor. For those inclined to be offended, I offer Rule 62: Don't take yourself too damn seriously. It's a doll. That I have fun with a doll that doesn't look anything like what Jesus probably looked like hardly qualifies as sacrilege.

On-Line Prescription Refills (General)

I ordered a medication refill online from Walgreens. After mashing the Submit button, the screen read:

Please wait while we process your order.... this may take a minute or more, depending on the speed of your internet connection.
In a word, bollocks.

I'm not at all clear why Walgreens' order processing, which takes place on their servers, depends on the speed of my Internet connection. While Bubba Sixpack might accept that, I don't. The processing speed is up to Walgreens and their ordering and fulfilment systems and the speed of their Internet connection.

So, as a public service to Walgreens, the text should have read:

Please wait while we process your order.... this may take a minute or more, depending on the speed of our order processing and fulfilment system and the speed of our Internet connection.
